Parent Information

Completing Registration Process

Once you have been notified of your child(ren)’s acceptance on the team, the PTA waiver and pledge form and payment needs to be turned in by January 10th or your spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist.

Start date, location and time

January 26th 2018, from 2:30-3:15pm at Brywood field.  The program will run on Fridays (except for before school run on Mar 22 and March 29 from 7:30-7:55am), until April 20th.  On Friday, 4/27/18, we will be holding the KROC information meeting, and we will have a table set up at MCF for Kids Run the OC (KROC) packet pickup. 

Practice Cancellation

If it is raining, an email will be sent to you by noon that day informing you of whether practice has been cancelled or not.  Please do not call the school.

Practice Checklist

  • 2018 Brywood Blazing Blue Jays t-shirt (or other Brywood shirts, until the team shirts arrive).

  • Comfortable pants or shorts.  Please no jeans as they are really uncomfortable.

  • Running shoes.

  • Water bottle with your child’s name on it – very important.  It can always be refilled at the water fountain.

  • Snack – only if your child needs it before or right after.  Make sure it is mostly carb and light.

  • Signed nutritional challenge slip and extra mile form if that was completed.

Important Reminders

  • Tell your child to stay at the field until you pick them up

  • Kids will be required to check in and out at each practice so we can make sure everyone is accounted for and safe.   Ensure your kids have checked out when you pick them up.

  • At check out your child will receive the nutritional challenge, which must be signed and returned each week in order to be entered in the weekly raffle.

  • Have fun, improve skills and learn new skills

  • Promote physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle

  • Build confidence and self-esteem and respect the coaches

Kids Run the OC (KROC)

  • May 5th at the OC fair and events center.

  • $29 entry fee – Kids will receive a KROC t-shirt, race bib, timing chip, marathon medal and a certificate.  We encourage everyone to run this, as it’s a wonderful way to build school spirit and a great finish to our program.

  • Register online at www.kidsruntheoc.org.  Online registration is open until March 1, 2017.  Select “Brywood Elementary” or code “199” under School.  You are responsible for registering your children.

  • Each participant’s parent or guardian must fill out a hard copy of the KROC waiver (in addition to the waiver as part of registration) for the Brywood coaches to pick up your bib.  Waivers can be found and downloaded online <here>.

  • Please bring confirmation email and signed KROC waiver to the school’s front office by March 2nd 2018 so we can provide KROC our roster.

  • On Friday, 4/27/18, we will be holding the KROC information meeting, and we will have a table set up at MCF (5/4/18) for Kids Run the OC (KROC) packet pickup.

Volunteers

We need parent volunteers for each practice –  We ask that each parent sign up for at least 5 spots during the duration of the program.

  • Two parent volunteer to help set up and check-in – 2:00 – 2:30pm.

  • Four parent volunteers to help monitor running (stand at the corners of the running track to make sure kids don’t run off), hand out nutritional challenges and cleanup – 2:50 – 3:20pm.

  • 6-8 parent volunteers to help with two timed mile days (stand at the corners of the running track, mark laps, yell out times, and record times by student names) – 2:40 – 3:10pm.

  • On the morning run days – Two parent volunteer to help set up, check-in, hand out nutritional challenges and check-out  – 7:20 – 8:00am.

  • On the morning run days – Four parent volunteers to help monitor running (stand at the corners of the running track to make sure kids don’t run off) and cleanup – 7:25 – 8:00am.

If your child(ren) will be participating in the Kids Run the OC (KROC) event, we will need additional volunteers at the Brywood booth on event day, May 5th.

Thanks for being a part of our program.  It’s a wonderful activity to be involved in and will hopefully inspire kids to keep running and eating healthy as they experience the benefits of this lifestyle.  No matter where you are in the world if you have a pair of running shoes, you can go out for a run.
