The Reflections Arts Recognition Program

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2019-2020 theme:  “Look Within”

Reflections encourages students of all ages to:

  • Unleash creative talents and be inspired

  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork

  • Experience the fun and joy of making art

  • Tap into critical-thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme

  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.

It is very important, that the art works relate to the theme! The participants need to write a 10-100 word artist statement to go with their art piece, which tells the judges how the theme inspired their art work, or how their art work is related to the theme.

Final submission deadline:  Friday, October 4, 2019 at 2:30pm at the Brywood office.

Students may submit entries in the following categories (click on the title for the rules):

      •   Visual Arts

      •   Dance Choreography

      •   Film Production

      •   Music Composition

Every child who enters the competition at our school will be recognized. This is a great chance for kids to express themselves artistically!

Look Within

Choreograph a dance, produce a film, write a poem or story, compose a song, take a picture, or create a piece of visual art and tell us your interpretation of the theme:  “Look Within”.

Discover your world and explore new cultures or your own through dance, film, literature, music, photography, or visual arts.  No experience is required to participate in Reflections! Choose the arts category you’re interested in, create an original piece of artwork based on the theme, and be recognized as an artist in your community.

The top three entries in each category and grade division will continue on to the District Level to compete against entries from other schools. Students may enter multiple times and in multiple categories. We look forward to enjoying the creativity of our very talented Brywood students!

Steps to take if your child would like to enter the competition:

  1. Download and read the Official Rules.

  2. Have your child create one or more art works according to the guidelines and rules.

  3. After completing the art work(s), download and fill out the Entry Form (one for each piece of art work).

  4. Turn in the art work at the school’s office.

  5. The art works will be sent to judges. After judging, the winners will be notified. Their art work will advance to the Council (then possibly to the District/ California State/ National PTA).

  6. Note: A Consent Form must accompany each entry if a person’s recognizable image or voice is included in the submission.

We will celebrate all artists who turn in art work for the Reflections competition at Brywood, and a gallery will also showcase the works at the school.
