Where do PTA Funds Go?
To help parents and students understand where funds raised from Brywood PTA events and activities go, they are allocated into four categories to support Brywood: instruction and technology, student enrichment, support services and community. We welcome your ideas and feedback to help improve our PTA efforts. Please feel free to reach out to Nicole Chang at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If Brywood PTA is unable to reach fundraising goals through Pledge Drive and other efforts, what would Brywood do without?
Limited funding will cause our PTA to look at budget changes that may include:
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding to supplement for the school nurse two days out of the week (IUSD pays only for 3 days)
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding for classroom supplies and curriculum support materials (Time for Kids, Wordly Wise, books)
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding for Lunch Time Activities and school-wide assemblies
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding for site improvements (lunch tables, work tables, storage cabinets, etc.)
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding for IUSD matching grant program to upgrade computers
- Reduction or elimination of PTA funding to operate PTA Programs:
- Red Ribbon Week
- Brywood Dads
- Halloween Family Fun Night
- Holiday Family Fun Night
- Astronomy Night
- Talent Show
- 5th Grade Health Program (Guy Stuff, Mother-Daughter Tea)
- Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
- Multicultural Festival
In the past, Brywood families were asked to sell wrapping paper, candles, and chocolates to help raise funds for PTA. This has been replaced by the Fall Pledge Drive as the main fundraising activity. With the Pledge Drive, 100% of your donation goes to PTA as opposed to only a percentage of the wrapping paper sales.
The money that PTA raises is used to cover the gap between what our state and school district fund and the kind of educational and community programs that build a truly well-rounded child. PTA contributes each year so that we can offer the students at our school an array of activities and enhancements. If we do not raise money, we simply cannot offer these programs.
PTA members are encouraged to provide input and ideas, including how funds are allocated. Please attend our monthly PTA meetings to get your voice heard. You may also contact Nicole Chang at email@example.com.
How is Brywood PTA working to improve communication?
In addition to our Brywood PTA website, we will continue to use other outlets to communicate to our Brywood community about upcoming events, activities, programs and community news. Brywood PTA works closely with Principal Timothy Moeller to send weekly newsletters, email blasts and phone message reminders when appropriate. Our PTA General Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month in which an updated monthly budget report is presented along with upcoming events and programs. Also follow us on Facebook at Brywood PTA.
The Common Core teaching method is being implemented now in K-1 at Brywood. What are the Common Core Standards? Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards. Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the CCSS to prepare students for success in college and the workplace. Brywood Student Directory The Brywood Student Directory provides a communication tool for parents, staff and students that include: student name, grade, and teacher. There is the option to Opt-Out of the Directory in which the following data would be excluded: student street address, parent/guardian name, email address, and phone. Your child’s name will still appear in the class listing but no home address and contact information will be listed. Fill out the Opt-Out form by October 31. Expect to receive a confirmation email by November 1 stating that your opt-out was received. If you don’t receive the confirmation email by then, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
