Where do PTA Funds Go?

QATo help parents and students understand where funds raised from Brywood PTA events and activities go, they are allocated into four categories to support Brywood: instruction and technology, student enrichment, support services and community. We welcome your ideas and feedback to help improve our PTA efforts. Please feel free to reach out to Nicole Chang at president@brywoodpta.com.

QAWhy is PTA asking me to donate money for the Fall Pledge Drive?

In the past, Brywood families were asked to sell wrapping paper, candles, and chocolates to help raise funds for PTA.  This has been replaced by the Fall Pledge Drive as the main fundraising activity. With the Pledge Drive, 100% of your donation goes to PTA as opposed to only a percentage of the wrapping paper sales.

The money that PTA raises is used to cover the gap between what our state and school district fund and the kind of educational and community programs that build a truly well-rounded child.  PTA contributes each year so that we can offer the students at our school an array of activities and enhancements.  If we do not raise money, we simply cannot offer these programs.

QAHow can I make suggestions on how I would like PTA to use my donation?

PTA members are encouraged to provide input and ideas, including how funds are allocated.  Please attend our monthly PTA meetings to get your voice heard.  You may also contact Nicole Chang at president@brywoodpta.com.

How is Brywood PTA working to improve communication?

In addition to our Brywood PTA website, we will continue to use other outlets to communicate to our Brywood community about upcoming events, activities, programs and community news.   Brywood PTA works closely with Principal Timothy Moeller to send weekly newsletters, email blasts and phone message reminders when appropriate.  Our PTA General Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month in which an updated monthly budget report is presented along with upcoming events and programs.  Also follow us on FacebookFB-Blue-Box-mini at Brywood PTA.

QAWhat are the Common Core Standards?

The Common Core teaching method is being implemented now in K-1 at Brywood. What are the Common Core Standards? Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade.  In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school.  The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards. Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math.   These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state.  Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the CCSS to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.   State linkhttp://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/ IUSD link: http://newsflash.iusd.org/category/common-core/ California’s Common Core State Standards for Mathematics California’s Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects National Common Core Standards – The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).
